Francesc Giralt, an expert in complex systems, has applied the principles of nonlinear dynamics and a systems perspective to understand and document the development of self-sufficient cities at the City Protocol Society (CPS). The City Anatomy, its Ontology and the Livable Districts documents published by the CPS exemplify this systems approach and define a common ground where city-to-city collaboration can be promoted. Emeritus Professor at the University Rovira i Virgili he is responsible for developing the CPS strategic vision to accelerate the responsible transformation of cities for enhanced livability and people’s wellbeing. A graduate in chemistry and chemical engineering from the IQS (Barcelona) and the University of Barcelona, respectively, he completed his education at the University of Toronto (MASc; PhD), University of Barcelona (ScD), and ICT-Barcelona (DBA). Visiting scholar at many universities worldwide, he has been granted several R&D+i and education prizes and awards. Coauthor of more than 250 conference papers and 150 publications, he has directed 195 projects, supervised 34 PhD theses and lead the creation of 2 spin-offs.
