Over the past decade, Alain Maloberti has worked in the research centre of France Telecom (Division R&D of France Télécom) in charge of the radio transmission part of a research project on a digital cellular mobile radio system in the 900 MHz band, which contributed to the definition of the GSM system. He was heavily involved in the GSM standardisation in ETSI, where he was notably chairman of the sub-technical committee SMG2 (radio aspects of the GSM system) (1985-1995), and vice-chairman of TC SMG (1995-1997).
He joined the Mobile Services Division of France Telecom in 1994, where he was responsible for the network and services development in France during all the expansion phase of the mobile network until 2003. He moved then to a corporate position in Orange Group, in charge of the network strategy and delivery of the mobile networks enablers for all the member companies of the Group. After the merge of fixed and mobile services activities in France Telecom, in 2006, his scope has been extended to fixed, broadband and mobile networks, and later to all networks R&D activities within Orange.
He is currently, Senior Vice-President, Orange Labs Networks. As such, he is in charge of the strategy, architecture, design, vendor management and equipment selection for Orange’s network infrastructure worldwide.
He is representing Orange in the Board of NGMN (Next Generation Mobile Networks).
